These are just a few silk and lace fabric necklaces that I made recently. I wanted to try something new. These items are available for purchase in the Etsy shop.

This one can be worn two ways.

FASCINATOR COMMISSION

I just shipped my second hat commission for the year! My customer is attending a special event at the end of the month and she wanted a custom bespoke fascinator to wear with this dress....

Such a cute dress! I got so excited when she emailed the photos that I began working on a design right away. This is what I came up with...

I decided to focus on the floral patterns in the dress and mimic them in the fascinator design. A few feathers and a hint of veiling make this look simple, modern and classic. Here is the final product...

I'm really happy with this design and, my customer is too!

THE RETURN OF THE CLOCHE HATS

COMMISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

A few weeks ago, my good friend Bethany commissioned me to make a hair piece for her upcoming April wedding. I completed the piece on Friday evening but, my husband and I were so busy over the weekend, I didn't have time to get to the post office. To avoid any further delay in getting Bethany's special commission to her, I hurried off to the post office this morning to ship this lovely hair flower that I am really proud of.

The design differs from my original sketch but, I am still happy with the results.

Initially, Bethany wanted a few feathers added to the piece. She is pretty conservative and likes simple elegance so, the feather request surprised me a bit. I tacked a few feathers to the flower and sent this photo to her via email. After taking a look at this design, she decided that maybe the feathers were a bit too much, not exactly her style. My sentiments exactly so, I removed the feathers.

I'm really sad that I won't be able to go to the wedding. But, it makes me so happy to know that I will be apart of her wedding day in such a special way. I know that she will be a stunning bride and I hope that she loves her headpiece.

A WORK IN PROGRESS

As promised, here is a sneak peak at the new collection for Spring and Summer 2010. I apologize in advance for the crappy lighting. I am a bit behind schedule getting everything finished but, no it's no big deal, I'll get her done!

It was not easy to find the soft, pale shades of peach, green, and yellow which were used in the Marie Antoinette color palette. I was a bit disappointed with my color options but, I had to make due with what was available. I used alot of pink, big surprise, and gold. I also added pearls accents to just about everything which made all of the pieces cohesive. And besides, pearls are just elegant!

The floral headpieces are all made of silk.......

as well as some of the necklaces.

I am in love with these romantic feminine bracelets and these cute little hair clippy's.

Everything is nicely finished on the back with a silk base.

I hope to begin photographing the pieces this weekend (I have about 20 pieces in the collection) and then stocking my Etsy shop early next week. The photographer (my husband) is not available until Friday.

AND.......

I'm also working on new cloche styles as well. It's been awhile since I've made the cloche's and they seem to sell very well. I want to try something a little different for the brim on the pink one. Not sure yet what that will be but, I'll keep you updated with the progress.

CUTE CLIPS

I found these cute clips at the 1 Euro store yesterday.

I used them to hang photos onto my "Inspiration Ribbon" which hangs over my cutting table.

My current inspiration is the color palette from "Marie Antoinette" starring Kirsten Dunst. I have a couple of photos from "The Duchess" starring Kiera Knightly hanging on the ribbon as well. I really like some of the design aspects from this film too. I plan to incorporate my Duchess inspiration into later projects.

I MADE IT OVER!

So, today I mastered another hurdle since I moved to Germany a year and a half ago. I went to the doctor by myself! Now, I know that visiting the doctors office alone is really no big deal but, if you are new to a country and are not fluent in the language, this can be quite intimidating. Normally my husband would accompany me to really important appointments where the language barrier can be challenging but, today he had to work. I don't think he really wanted to go with me to this anyway. The appointment was with the gynecologist. Everyone at the office was very nice. I understood all of their questions and even asked a couple myself. I think that I worked up a bit of anxiety prior to the visit, hence the high blood pressure but, I am happy to say that things went smoothly.

I have been enrolled in language courses, with the exception of summer break, pretty much since I arrived here in the Summer of 08. German is not an easy language to learn. Nonetheless, I have reached the point where I can go shopping alone, I can get around with public transportation, and I can hold a simple conversation with others and answer the telephone without freaking out. I am also able to watch the news and read the newspapers with understanding. In my language courses I have met people from other countries who have been living in Germany 10-20 yrs., and they still do not speak the language well. I'm not saying this to toot my own horn but, I feel that if one is going to live in another country and make a life in that country then, they should have a good grasp of the language. It's important to know and be able to understand what's going on around you. I can't always have my husband there to hold my hand so I have to learn the language. I also keep a handy pocket translator in the case of a "I don't know that word emergency".

In December I finished the one year German language course for beginners and, I passed all of my exams. I'm not finished yet. I have enrolled in another course which begins next month. The last course required me to go to classes everyday for 3 hrs. This time, the class is twice a week for 1 1/2 hours. The only way to master a new language is of course take a class. You must also amerce yourself into the culture by getting out and listening to the conversations that you hear around you. Reading is very important but, simply speaking the language is the best way to learn. I used to get so embarrassed when I made a mistake when talking to someone. But my husband always say's "language is like a flower, you have to cultivate it". Now, I don't care so much when I make a mistake. I just count it as part of the learning experience. My husband are still speaking mostly in English however, we are conversing more often in German. I'm looking forward to mastering German and then moving onto another language. I think French will be next.
